A View Of Other Windows
The book that is a collection Neal Casal’s photography during his time with Ryan Adams and the rest of the Cardinals, is a wonderful piece of art. It’s band art. It’s everything that music is supposed to be except in visual form. Every time that I look through the book I can’t help but wish that I myself was on tour somewhere playing music I love with my friends. You can see the looks on all the band members faces and they show just how much passion each of them has for the music that they make and just how much they enjoy making music with that group of people. That’s the dream isn’t it? Being a band is supposed to be about playing music you love to make and having a good time. The best pictures in the book are the ones that really have nothing to do with music but have everything to do with being in a band. The pictures of band members hanging out in venues before shows, eating pizza with the other guys, running into friends you made the last time in town, telling the dumb jokes; those are the things that I miss about playing in a band. That’s why ‘A View Of Other Windows’ makes me jealous, the amount of fun had by all the people involved is unparalleled by just about anything and it seeps through the pages. It’s one of the few pieces of non-music art that makes me want to make music.
